David Lentz

Vice President and Director of Investments

Meet the Vice President and Director of Investments, David Lentz

With nearly 15 years of experience in wealth management, I am committed to serving successful individuals and their families with all aspects of their financial planning concerns. It is my privilege to understand, address, and solve our clients’ problems.

I began my career as a financial advisor with Ameriprise, where I was extensively trained in the core disciplines of financial planning. In 2007, I made the decision to move my practice to an independent investment and financial services firm based out of Charlotte, NC. In 2017, after surveying the industry landscape, I brought my practice to Thorium Wealth Management, where I serve as Director of Investments and Vice President.

I have spent nearly my whole life around the financial business environment, as my mother and other family members have financial advisory and wealth management backgrounds. I am motivated by helping others solve their problems – large and small. Two attributes – analytical and expressive – shape who I am and why I enjoy doing what I do. The analytical side embraces the challenge of finding a solution to a problem, while the expressive side enjoys developing a personal relationship.

I am an avid student of the markets, and have observed over the years that markets of all kinds frequently have identifiable and repeatable patterns. As Mark Twain wrote, “History doesn’t repeat itself, but it often rhymes.” As a result of this understanding, I have spent years studying and developing skills and techniques to assess when to increase or decrease exposure to market risk. I am also proficient in many options based strategies designed to hedge market risk or generate income.

I hold a BS in Business from Wake Forest University. In addition to various securities registrations, I am currently studying for examination to receive the Chartered Market Technician® (CMT) credential, one of the preeminent, global designations for practitioners of technical analysis. The designation is awarded to those who demonstrate mastery of a core body of knowledge of investment risk in portfolio management settings.
My wife Kelsey and I live in the Winston Salem area with our children Averie, Weston, Bennett, and Juliette. Outside of the office, I am passionate about spending time with family, playing golf, writing and recording music, and participating in many outdoor activities.

I believe life is about “continuing progress…not perfection.” I thank you for reading a little bit about me, and I look forward to learning more about you and your needs and assisting you in reaching your goals through an ongoing planning relationship.
