FinCon wrap up

What do FIRE, Hoops, Podcasts, Alexa, and Dave Ramsey all have in common?

They were just a few of the topics covered at FinCon 2018.  This was my first FinCon and to say it was an interesting experience is an understatement.  I didn’t know what to expect going into my trip to Orlando.  While I have been to dozens of conferences over my career this one was different.

FinCon 2018: It’s Here!

Fincon 2018

I can’t believe it is already September. 2018 is flying by and the adage of days go by slow, but years fly by and get more meaningful the older I get. This is a big week for me. I am going to be heading to FinCon. For those that don’t know FinCon is the largest conference for financial bloggers and I am one of the speakers. This is my first time speaking at a major conference so I’m not gonna lie I’m more than a little nervous.

I’m going to be speaking about using Alexa and voice as a platform to help educate clients and prospects. It’s something I am really excited about and our Alexa App is one of the first if not the first independent financial advisor application. I’ll be sure to share more about Alexa here in the future.

On top of speaking I am super excited to be around so many other successful and energetic people around the topic of personal finance. It will be great to network and learn from others and I am excited to learn how some of the really prolific writers and podcasters get out content so efficiently. I am also excited to see some of the cool FinTech tools that are going to be on display. It will be cool to hear Jean Chatzky speak. Besides being NBCs personal finance correspondent, she is a real innovator in personal finance and media.

Be on the lookout for some new stuff during FinCon as well as right after. I am going to try to implement my new education as quickly as possible. Also, if you are at FinCon and want to be part of my special two questions project be sure to find me.

Your Brain Is Hurting Your Money!

History of TV and Money!

I’m gonna let you in on a dirty little secret. TV and pop culture have manipulated you and your brain!

It was by design.  It has crept into your subconscious and it has caused you to make a bunch of bad decisions in your life and in particular your financial life.  How much TV (Netflix) do you or your family watch in a day?  A 2010 study showed that the average child watches more than 4.5 hours of TV a day.  That’s over 1600 hours of TV in a year!  Now let’s talk about how it affects you and what you need to do to fix it. Sell in September?

What’s Up With September and The Markets?

I read a lot of stuff every week whether it be blog posts, research papers, or books and occasionally I find something that is interesting and worth sharing.  This morning I came across a blog post from Jay on The Markets where he throws out a very interesting and possibly crazy idea.

Only invest for the first 3 trading days of September and forget the rest of the month. (more…)

Is Tesla on The Quick Path to Bankruptcy or the Moon?

On May 2, Elon Musk and Tesla had their quarterly conference call, and to say it was interesting is an understatement. Now everything I am going to say from this point forward does not constitute a recommendation to buy, sell, or hold Tesla stock. These are purely my thoughts on a company that I have been asked hundreds of questions about over the past few years.

The shiny new toys are my amazing new computer and a killer app for parents with school age kids to help manage allowances.

Here we go again! What’s the stock market doing?

Well volatility is really back for good apparently. After a short hiatus after the February stock market correction Volatility came roaring back with a 724 point decline on the Dow Jones Industrial Average on March 23, 2018. It was the 5th largest single day point decline in the history of the Dow.
